Fringe Dwellers, 2013

These works were made on residency at Laughing Waters located amidst national park, alongside the historic Yarra River in Victoria, Australia. Fringe Dwellers explores the conflicting approaches to nature taken by various groups in society. For some people National Parks are places to tread lightly and treat respectfully. For others, they are locations for escape and play, where normal rules do not apply.

These images position individual performers within a bush setting. The soft natural forms and tones of the Australian bush are contrasted with bold geometric shapes and bright colours. The performers who appear in the photographs exist in tension between these two apparent polarities.

The photographs were shown at Slot Space Sydney in 2013.
