I consider teaching a collaborative engagement…
In my teaching practice I am interested in merging andragogy (teacher as facilitator) with pedagogy (teacher as leader), so that students have an active role in their learning. Regardless of context, be that tertiary, further education, secondary, or primary, I believe it is important to respect individual learning approaches, prior knowledge, lived experience and learning needs.
Teaching is intertwined with my broader creative practice, through collaborative projects such as The Printed Stage, and community partnerships with organisations such as, The Horsebridge Arts Centre and University for the Creative Arts (UCA). I enjoy teaching, because I enjoy helping people achieve their creative goals.
Experience
Throughout my career I have accrued experience as an educator and speaker.
Within the Tertiary sector I have lectured for the University of Canberra (AUS) and guest lectured for the University for the Creative Arts (UK), Queensland College of Art (AUS), as well as the Australian National University (AUS). At Griffith University (AUS) I have designed, implemented and ran a professional development internship program for students from the Queensland College of Art, working with each student individually to help them along their chosen career trajectory.
I have worked in adult education as a sessional tutor for the Horsebridge Arts Centre (UK), Kent Adult Education (UK), the Horsebridge Arts Centre, and Friendly Faces of Kent (UK). I have presented artist talks and sat on panels for organisations such as Museum of Brisbane (AUS), Pecha Kucha Brisbane (AUS) and the Level ARI International Women’s Day Forum (AUS).
In addition, I have delivered professional development workshops for secondary school art teachers on behalf of the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (AUS), along with KickArts Cairns (AUS) and through my role as a Creative Workshop Tutor for the University for the Creative Arts (UK). I have delivered secondary school workshops in her capacity as Art Industry Representative for Yeronga State High School in Brisbane (AUS) and run workshops for pre-school aged children for Moreton Bay City Council in Queensland (AUS) . I have also worked with primary aged children for Bundanon Trust (AUS) as well as for the Horsebridge Arts Centre (UK).
In addition, to my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I have a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training from the City and Guilds, UK. I also have a Creative Tutor Award from Canterbury City Council for my work at Kent Adult Education.
