Introduction to Drawing & Composition.
This page is for students currently enrolled in Introduction to Drawing & Composition at the Horsebridge Arts Centre, UK.
Congratulations!
Congratulations! Well done! You have all made huge progress this term in your making, even with the interruptions. It is one thing to be able to draw, it is another entirely to be able to compose an image. Whether you are interested in telling a story, making a statement, exploring the glory of shape and colour, or all of the above, composition will help you get there. I hope you feel the learning this term has helped you turn your sketches into more compelling images. I also hope that as you visit shows and look at other artist’s work, you will feel better equipped to engage with composition in an informed manner.

Holiday Studio Challenge
I suspect you all deserve a drink and a lie down, but if you do feel like a holiday project challenge, I have one for you.
The holiday project challenge for those of you willing to accept it, is to create a series of 3 composed image in the media of your choice. The 3 images should share a theme or common quality. For example, they might all be landscapes, or they might be related images that tell a single story, or unrelated images that focus on triangles. The relationship can be anything you like, but I recommend you choose something connected with your interests. All three images should also demonstrate at least two of the compositional strategies we have learnt this term. That might include, underlying compositional shapes, leading/sight lines, synergetic shapes or synergetic colours.
Alternately, don’t do anything. Sometimes a rest can be all we need to come back to our studio projects full of energy and vigour. Please take some time for yourself this holiday to fill the proverbial tank.
Please bring to the next session:
Nothing ;) We are on holidays!
