Additional Resources
My apologies again for rescheduling our session planned for 23 January 2026. Please find above a recorded lesson about negative shapes for you to engage with in the meantime.
Please also remember to complete your home studio task, which is to make two drawings inspired by the compositional studies we made in class. One image about movement and another about order. I recommend using the underlying line to establish your framework and then add shapes, rendering etc on top of that. Your images may be realistic, abstract, or non-representational. If you choose a realistic composition, you may like to set up a still life or find a landscape that echoes the composition you are aiming to create.
The holiday challenge for anyone travelling this term, is to take/make a carefully composed photograph or drawing during your trip. Please bring your image to share with the group and explain what composition you chose and why.
As an additional activity, you could create a new drawing with an underlying shape that conveys a sense of explosion, such as radiating lines moving from the centre. If you would like to, you could hang negative and positive shapes on your exploding composition.
Happy drawing!
